The Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) program is a group exploration of self-compassion and techniques that support its cultivation. This program was created by Kristin Neff, PhD and Chris Germer, PhD, co-founders of the Center for Mindful Self-Compassion.
Self-compassion has been linked to decreased states of depression, anxiety and shame, as well to increased states of happiness, healthy body image, and better physical health and immune response. MSC is an empirically supported and nourishing way to meet yourself as you are with greater kindness, understanding and compassion.

8 Week Program Structure
- Once weekly practice and discussion group-Currently online only
- Daily at home practice of 10 to 30 minutes
- One half day retreat
Who is this program for?
This program is for everyone. A more pertinent question is if now is the right time to take this program.
This is an intensive 8 week program and although every effort has been made to make it as safe and supportive as possible, only you can say for certain that you have the emotional and mental space for this program, as well as the ability to commit to the weekly meetings and suggested home practice. If you are currently working with a counsellor or therapist, please discuss with them your intentions to take this program.
Although meditation practices are an important component of the MSC program, there is no intention to turn anyone into a regular meditator over these 8 weeks. Instead, this program is about cultivating that warm friendship with ourselves that gives us the strength and courage to create the life we want to live. If you are looking for more of a meditation-based program, please consider the MBSR program.
Please note that although self-compassion is of extreme value to children, MSC has been designed for the adult learner.
