Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is an eight week experiential cultivation of meditation and mindfulness practices that relies on the foundation of the shared human experience. As such, MBSR is best explored in a group setting where each participant’s experiences and reflections foster one another’s realized innate wisdom.
MBSR was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center with the goal of aiding those living with chronic pain. Since its beginnings in 1979, the MBSR program has demonstrated positive improvements in both physical and psychological symptoms in many of its thousands of participants.
MBSR is a means of developing the ability to pay attention to the present moment, as it is. This is a radical gift of compassion to ourselves and to those around us. If you have any questions or would like more information to see if it is the right time to undertake this transformational program, please CONTACT me.
8 Week Program Structure
Who is this program for?
This program is for everyone. A more pertinent question is if now is the right time to take this program.
This is an intensive 8 week program and although every effort has been made to make it as safe and supportive as possible, only you can say for certain that you have the emotional and mental space for this program, as well as the ability to commit to the weekly meetings and suggested home practice. If you are currently working with a counsellor or therapist, please discuss with them your intentions to take this program.
This program relies on formal practices of meditation to cultivate stress-reducing ways of being in our day-to-day life. If you are curious about bringing more awareness into your life but are not interested in developing a regular meditation practice, please consider the MSC program.
Please note that although mindfulness is of extreme value to children, this particular offering of MBSR has been designed for the adult learner. Although there no currently no programs for children and young adults offering by Mindfulness Underway, I'd be happy to suggest organizations to look into as your search for something for these dear young ones in your life.
